threats and promises

Having crowed victory over the cancellation of IMU, Silvio has returned to his posturing.  He now says that if the senate vote against him on the ruling of being excluded from the senate for being a criminal, he will make the government fall.    A few hundred years ago this would be classed as high treason.  The mystifying thing is that he is riding high in the opinion polls – admittedly he has more space dedicated to him on tv and in his papers than anyone else, but how the Italians could possibly vote for a man who has stalled an entire country for a month for his personal legal problems is beyond belief.    We wait until September 9th for a decision, but its looking more and more likely that Letta will find a fudge to keep him there.  The fallout will not be pleasant.
